Part 1: The Shattered World and the Oathless Wanderer

Introduction to the Sundered Lands: The world is a mosaic of disparate biomes and city-states, known as the Sundered Lands, where the landscape physically rearranges at dawn. Rivers shift, mountains teleport, and cities find themselves in new, often hostile, geographical contexts. This phenomenon, called the "Dawn Shift," is a consequence of the "Sundering," a catastrophic magical event millennia ago. Each city-state clings fiercely to its unique culture, resources, and often, grudges. Communication and trade are almost impossible, leading to perpetual skirmishes and isolation.

Meet Kaelen, the Oathless Knight: Kaelen is a former celebrated knight from a now-vanished kingdom (lost to the Sundering or a past war). He renounced his oaths after a devastating failure that cost him his family/commander/kingdom. He bears a distinctive, scarred sigil of his old order.

Act I: The Ember & The Kettle

Introduction to Ignatius: Introduce Ignatius, a magnificent but now rather portly and gentle ancient red dragon. He's lived for millennia, amassed countless treasures, but finds himself profoundly bored and lonely in his mountain lair. He yearns for connection beyond being feared.

The Idea Sprouts: One day, while idly sifting through an old scholar's spellbook he "acquired," he stumbles upon a forgotten, minor enchantment for "essence distillation" – originally intended for perfumes, but sparking an idea for something far more profound.

Building "The Warm Hearth": Ignatius uses his vast (and conveniently available) hoard of glittering gems and rare metals to build and furnish a surprisingly quaint and inviting tea shop in a charming, magically-protected valley town, far from his intimidating mountain peak. He calls it "The Warm Hearth."

The Blessed Burden:

Introduction to Elara: Elara is the respected, if melancholic, village healer of Oakhaven. She possesses a unique, intuitive touch that can banish any sickness. Villagers revere her, seeing her as a blessing from the forest spirits.

The First Echo: Elara cures a child, Wren, of a mysterious wasting sickness. Days later, Wren's elderly, isolated grandmother falls ill with the exact same wasting sickness, dying shortly after. Elara dismisses it as a tragic coincidence.

Growing Unease: Over several months, Elara performs more cures. Each time, someone else in the village, often someone marginal or already frail, sickens with the same ailment. The pattern is too consistent to ignore. She notices a faint, dark ripple leave the patient and momentarily coalesce near her before dissipating.

The Horrific Realization: Elara cures her beloved mentor, Old Man Tiber, of a severe fever. Within hours, her younger sister, Lyra, who was perfectly healthy, collapses with the same fever, rapidly worsening. Elara realizes the horrifying truth: she doesn't cure; she transfers. The dark ripple is the illness itself, seeking a new host through her.
